P538 Interior design

Unlike the exterior design task, the interior design was started out form a blank sheet of paper. The criteria concerning for this task was every single parts must fit perfectly with the monocoque and other instruments.

“Less Hi-Tech More Hi-Touch”

Main concept of overall interior design is “Less Hi-Tech, More Hi-Touch”. It represent overall interior will not mention on technology, whereas we‘ll pay more attention in precious material and design. This theme board guilds direction of design, Overall design will be simple and conceal complicate details inside them. And then overall will be decorated by attractive details such as gauges, vents and gear lever. They will be obvious on simple body.

Sketch

Outstanding matte steel dashboard contrasts with precious leather, carbon fiber console connect front and rear with other instruments in which had been set precisely. Three of us sketched independently, based on the main concept, before the key sketch was selected. Then we start forming clay model and generating CAD model together. The surface configuration was achieved by clay model whereas exactly location of details could be assigned by CAD.

We built structure first with foam and MDF inside the duplicated monocoque.

Then it was covered clay in order to form the clay model.

Full scale clay modelling was led by Mr. Pongnut Krainichakul. After we finished all surfaces and have it ready for scanning.

CAD Design

I was responsible for CAD design, which was used to provide the precise dimension and location of the details. Because the duplicated monochoque we used did not contain correct thickness, nuts location and inside panels.

CAD Design

Location of the specific points, after obtaining from CAD model, was accessible by operating the layout machine. Using CAD helped visualized the overall look and touch of selected materials, as well as colour and trim can be achieved with CAD design too.

Features

The instrument panel was designed with distinctive Bizzarrini badge aligns in the center and surrounded by simply sheet metal. Carbon fiber was chosen to be attractive on center console continues to back panel whereas other interior parts were finished by dark gray leather to be simple and correspond with the main concept.

Dash Board

Features

The dash board was designed to be switchable between right and left hand drive. This gave an opportunity for selling in both left and right hand drive region.
